Liva has an MSc in Applied Oceanology from the Institut Halieutique et des Sciences Marines (IH.SM), University of Toliara. Before working for Reef Doctor, he was a Technical Researcher Assistant within VALOREMAR laboratory based at IH.SM (his expertise was focused on water testing and quality control). In 2014, he joined Reef Doctor as a Community Aquaculture Technician and Socio-economic Officer and was promoted to Aquaculture Administrative Manager in 2016. Towards the end of 2017, Liva went in Canada and worked remotely for Reef Doctor as an Aquaculture and Fisheries Consultant. He returned to Madagascar at the end of 2018 and has since moved into the position of our Project Manager. In this role, he is coordinating the development, funding and evaluation of Reef Doctor programmes on the ground in Madagascar, managing the operational and logistical activities of the Ifaty project site, and overseeing and ensuring day-to-day support of Reef Doctor’s Madagascar staff, interns and volunteers.
Pierrot Maharavo

Pierrot from Toliara is Reef Doctor’s on-site accountant and has been with the company since 2014. In addition to accounting, he manages the Malagasy staff and organises resupply from Toliara for camp.
Razanamahafaly Nicolastin
Camp Manager

Nicolastin is from Ifaty village and joined Reef Doctor as Camp Manager in February 2016. He is responsible for overseeing the daily camp operations and maintenance/construction.
Sauve Ratovonjanajary
Assistant Project Manager

Sauve joined the team at the end of 2019 having previously worked with us on our aquaculture programme. He has a Masters in Economics, and a Bachelors degree in Economic Administration from the University of Toamasina. Sauve supports our Project Manager, Liva, in the running of our programmes and administrative activities.
Patty Saboeny
Volunteer Coordinator

Patty originally joined Reef Doctor in September 2018 as our Assistant Project Manager after previously working for us as a translator. She has a professional license in Biodiversity and Environment from the University of Toliara. Patty now takes on the role of Volunteer Coordinator in which she organises all of our volunteer and intern programmes on site.
Pepin Emmanuel
Assistant Volunteer Coordinator

Pepin joined our aquaculture team in the beginning of 2018. He is originally from Ifaty and has previously worked with us as Aquaculture SocioEconomic Officer, Fisheries Officer and Boat Driver. He has also provided support to our science team over the last decade. He is a certified PADI Rescue diver and enjoys working with communities to improve their livelihoods. He loves surfing and rugby. Pepin is also President of the Association Vezo Miaro (Association of Young Fishermen), which he established in collaboration with Reef Doctor. As Volunteer Coordinator, he works with Patty to ensure the running of all our volunteer and intern programmes on site.
Gaë Charles Zafimanantena
Administration & Finance Support Officer

Gaë joined our team in March 2019 to provide support to all of our administrative and financial activities in-country. He has a Licence in Economics and a Diploma in Economics & Management from the University of Fianarantsoa. Before joining Reef Doctor, he held secretarial and accounting positions at a variety of companies in the southwest region.
Dr Vivienne Stein-Rostaing, PhD

Viv holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology and a MSc in Tropical Coastal Management from Newcastle University. She completed her PhD, researching the effects of ocean acidification on marine ecosystems, at Plymouth University in 2012. Viv has previously worked as a science officer at Reef Doctor in 2008 and 2012. She also has gained marine research and conservation experience in Honduras, Thailand, Seychelles, South Africa, and North Madagascar. She is currently based in the UK where she provides external scientific research support.
Candice D’Silva
Operations and Strategy Development Consultant

Candice has a 25 year history in operations, project, and people management. She joined the team in 2016 as a UK-based consultant to provide strategic vision and structure to facilitate our stable infrastructure growth. She has previously managed disaster relief and resilience efforts in remote areas such as Mexico, Brazil and The Philippines.
